About IWRREC

Building a Sustainable Future Through Research, Standards, Recovery and Renewable Energy

The International Waste Resource Recovery and Energy Council (IWRREC) is an independent organization committed to advancing sustainable waste management, resource recovery, recycling technologies, and renewable energy solutions through research, technical collaboration, standards development, certification, education, and innovation.

Established with the vision of transforming waste from an environmental challenge into a valuable resource, IWRREC brings together researchers, industry experts, government bodies, educational institutions, and technology providers to develop practical solutions for a cleaner and more sustainable future.

The Council develops technical guidance, voluntary standards, certification frameworks, and research programs that help organizations improve environmental performance, optimize resource utilization, and adopt sustainable operational practices grounded in circular economy principles.

What guides our work

Our Mission

Advancing Sustainable Solutions

To advance sustainable waste management, resource recovery, renewable energy, and circular economy practices through research, standards, certification, education, innovation, and global collaboration.

Our Vision

A Circular & Sustainable Future

To be a globally recognized council advancing sustainable waste management, resource recovery, circular economy practices, and renewable energy through research, standards, certification, and international collaboration.

Why We Exist

Addressing Global Waste Challenges Through Knowledge, Collaboration and Innovation

Rapid population growth, urbanization, and industrialization have significantly increased the volume and complexity of waste worldwide. Landfill dependency, resource depletion, pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions highlight the urgent need for more sustainable approaches.

IWRREC was established to encourage a transition from conventional disposal toward integrated systems that emphasize prevention, recovery, recycling, renewable energy, and environmental responsibility, supported by scientific research, technical expertise, and industry collaboration.

The Council believes that every recovered resource and every unit of renewable energy generated from waste represents an opportunity to conserve natural resources, reduce environmental impact, and create long-term value for society.
