The loop breaks at logistics, not technology
Digesters and recovery equipment rarely fail on their own. Logistics do. The circular economy is fundamentally a supply chain challenge: feedstock must arrive fresh, digestate must leave before storage fills, and recovered products must reach end users at the right time and price.
IWRREC's circular economy readiness assessment prioritizes offtake contracts, payment systems, and transport infrastructure alongside process design, because incentive structures must close before nutrient loops can.
Design the offtake first
IWRREC now recommends that every project begin at the output end: who purchases the gas, power, fertilizer, and carbon credits, on what terms, and for how long? When every output has a contracted destination before construction begins, circularity becomes an operational reality rather than a presentation slide.
